Manpreet Kaur
Manpreet Kaur is an Indo-Canadian versatile playback singer. She started singing and recording at a very young age, and was the youngest in India to get an "A" grade in Ghazal singing from the All India Radio. She actively performed on Television and stages across India, and has Punjabi folk albums to her credit. She received a Master's Degree (Hons.) in Musicology from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, with Philosophy and English credits from the Miranda House at the University of Delhi, India.
Manpreet was the Winner of Winners in India's first musical reality TV show, Leher Leher Sangeet, in which she sang in various different Indian languages.
Manpreet credits her Ghazal television program for catching the attention of the late legendary Ghazal singer, Shri Jagjit Singh ji, whom she was fortunate to receive vocal training from: βHe gave me the opportunity to sing with him on stage and also record.β
She sang the title track Ghar aaja pardesi from DDLJ, a duet with Pamela Chopra. This song became a blockbuster success, and went on to win the Best Lyrics Filmfare award that year for Shri Anand Bakshi. Manpreet has recorded for legendary Bollywood Music Directors such as Ravindra Jain, Dilip Sen Sameer Sen, Monty Sharma, Jatin Lalit, Jawahar Wattal, and more; She received the blessings of legends such as Nusrat Fateh Ali ji, Laxmikant ji, and Bhappi Lahiri ji.
She performed in stage shows across Canada along with the late Sardool Sikander ji, and Amar Noori ji, and was recognised by The House of Commons on behalf of the government of Canada for her singing.
Manpreet Kaur now runs the Yellow Birds Music School in Brampton, where she teaches vocal training to pass on her experience and knowledge to students of all ages!
