Mridangam Trio
Sriram is a highly passionate mridangist; specializing in the ‘Pudukottai’ style of rhythm patterns that has compositional legacy roots as crafted by the maha guru ‘Palani Subramania Pillai’. Sriram learnt from Ramanathapuram M.N. Kandaswami Pillai for nearly 10 years and bring in 3 decades of mridangam experience, both as a solo artist as well as accompanying artist for vocals, violin, flute, mandolin, veena and piano. Sriram has a passion to train students on mridangam with great deal of emphasis on tonal clarity, complex laya structuring and the imparting techniques related to the fine art of accompanying other instruments. For the vibrant festival Brampton, Sriram is going to play a few compositions with his ‘trio’
Sriram (Junior), originally from Chennai is currently a doctoral student at the University of Waterloo, pursuing research in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Academics aside, Sriram is naturally gifted mridangam player with great passion to learn and pursue Carnatic music. Sriram started learning from a young age and came under the tutelage of several illustrious gurus while in Chennai but in Canada, he is now part of Sriram’s mridangam trio. He has been actively learning from his namesake – ‘Sriram’ since the past 3 years. Sriram’s specialization is to highlight the art of contrasting elements in rhythm patterns, with the ability to bring ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ strokes in mridangam instrument.
Arya, raised in Malaysia and then in Montreal moved to Brampton 3 years ago. Besides his love for electronics and electrical engineering, Arya invests a great deal of time and energy in pursuing his mridangam passion. After learning from several notable gurus in Malaysia and also in Montreal, Arya came under Sriram’s guidance in 2016. Since then, Sriram and Arya have been working towards fine tuning Arya’s skills in accompanying vocal and instrument talent in the region. Arya is part of mridangam trio. Along with the academics, Arya continues to evolve and experiment new compositions in mridangam
